The Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is additional funding provided by the Department of Education to enhance the education of social-economically disadvantaged pupils, namely those pupils entitled to Free School Meals (FSM) Looked After Children (LAC) and children of Services personnel.

Orchardside School is committed to diminishing the difference in progress and attainment and personal development between students who experience hardship or disadvantage and those from more fortunate home circumstances.

Schools are able to decide how best to allocate the PPG to support their disadvantaged students.

Catch Up

In June, the government announced £1 billion of funding to support children and young people to catch up.  The money for the catch-up premium is designed to ensure that schools have the support they need for all pupils make up for lost teaching time,

The catch-up premium is funded on a per pupil basis at £240 per pupil, this will be based on the previous year’s census.  The strategy document below sets out how Orchardside School will use the funding.

The overall aims of our catch-up premium strategy are:

  • To reduce the gaps between our disadvantaged pupils and their peers
  • To support the progress of all pupils to close the gaps created by COVID-19 school closures
